GrowthX Capital: How Hamad Al-Hajri's Venture Hub Is Building Qatar's Next Generation of Startups
- بواسطة Falak
Doha, Qatar – September 2026
In a little over a year, GrowthX Capital has moved from backing a single Doha logistics startup to running one of the most active early-stage portfolios in Qatar. Founded by Hamad Al-Hajri, the founder and CEO of Snoonu, Qatar’s first unicorn, GrowthX has built its strategy around a clear mission: find exceptional founders early, back them from day one, and help them build, scale and headquarter their companies in Doha.
The result is a portfolio that spans homegrown Qatari startups, international founders who have chosen Qatar as their regional base, and strategic positions in some of the region’s leading venture funds – a combination that is quietly strengthening the country’s startup pipeline at the stage where capital matters most.
GrowthX describes itself as a Doha-headquartered venture investment hub with a dual mandate. It writes direct cheques into startups from pre-seed through Series A across the GCC and MENA, and it invests as a strategic limited partner (LP) in early and growth-stage venture funds. The firm has also signalled a move into secondary-market capital, giving founders and early investors more flexible routes to liquidity.
The scale of ambition is significant. GrowthX’s website currently lists a fund size of US$150 million, while at its official launch in June 2026, Al-Hajri announced plans to deploy QAR 500 million (roughly US$137 million) into high-growth startups over five years – a commitment he tied directly to Qatar National Vision 2030 and the country’s push toward a diversified, knowledge-based economy.
What sets GrowthX apart is less the size of the cheque than who is writing it. Having built Snoonu from a local delivery app into a billion-dollar super-app, Al-Hajri brings the operating playbook, commercial network and technology infrastructure that early-stage founders in Qatar have historically had to look abroad for. As he put it at the GRO announcement, “GrowthX Capital exists to help visionary founders like this scale directly from Doha.”

One of the clearest patterns in the GrowthX portfolio is how closely it connects to Qatar’s own incubation and innovation programmes. Rather than competing with the national ecosystem, GrowthX is picking up the startups it produces and giving them the capital to take the next step.
ShipBee is the standout example. The AI-powered logistics marketplace, founded in 2024 by Tamer Raafat and Amer Azani, first validated its idea through Qatar Development Bank’s Innovation Hackathon and won the Idea Camp Hackathon at the Digital Incubation Center. GrowthX led its QAR 855,000 (US$235,000) pre-seed round in June 2025 alongside two angel investors, then came back to lead a US$500,000 seed round in March 2026 – taking ShipBee’s total external funding to roughly US$735,000 and backing its expansion across the GCC and Egypt.
GRO Solutions followed a similar path. The AI-powered personal finance platform, founded by Mariia Shevchenko with Ukrainian and German co-founders, graduated from Wave 7 of QDB’s Qatar FinTech Hub incubator, where it won the Best Pitch award. Its US$600,000 pre-seed round, announced alongside GrowthX’s launch in June 2026, anchored the company’s decision to make Doha its headquarters – a signing hosted by Qatar Chamber and welcomed by Ukraine’s ambassador to Qatar as a milestone for cross-border partnership.
TalebHub, a Qatari-founded student economy platform led by Mesfer Almarri, and Hired Valley, an AI-powered hiring and career platform whose founder chose Qatar as the company’s base, are the newest additions. Beyond capital, both have been brought into the Snoonu Startup Factory, giving them access to Snoonu’s technology infrastructure, operational expertise, mentorship and commercial network – exactly the kind of operator support early-stage founders in Qatar need most.
GrowthX’s international investments are just as intentional. In July 2026, it became the lead institutional investor in EdenMountain, the Saudi-founded company behind the world’s first marketplace for Enterprise Non-Operating Rights (ENORs®), backing its global expansion, platform development and team growth – a deal that sits alongside EdenMountain’s strategic partnership with Snoonu’s merchant network in Qatar.
In August 2026, GrowthX joined the US$45 million Series B of Yuno, the global payment orchestration platform, alongside Andreessen Horowitz, Tiger Global and Qatar’s Rasmal Ventures. The round comes as Yuno establishes Qatar as its GCC regional hub, placing a globally recognised fintech infrastructure company in Doha. The portfolio also includes AI and automation companies Deus Robotics and Open CX.
At the fund level, GrowthX is an investor in Rasmal Ventures, Qatar’s first institutionally backed venture firm, which counts the Qatar Investment Authority among its backers, and in strategies managed by regional investor Shorooq Partners. These positions multiply GrowthX’s reach across the region and feed deal flow and co-investment opportunities back to Doha.

Amounts reflect publicly announced figures. Where a total round size is shown, GrowthX participated in or led the round; its individual cheque may be smaller. Hired Valley and TalebHub figures are as announced by Hamad Al-Hajri; the two deals were reported as a combined US$1 million package alongside Snoonu.
Across the disclosed deals alone – ShipBee’s seed, GRO, Hired Valley and TalebHub – roughly US$1.85 million in early-stage financing has been announced with GrowthX backing, before counting the undisclosed positions in EdenMountain, Yuno, Deus Robotics, Open CX and its fund commitments.
Qatar has invested heavily in the front end of the startup journey – hackathons, incubators, accelerators and competitions run by QDB, QSTP, the Digital Incubation Center and others. The gap has often been what comes next: local, founder-friendly capital willing to write the first and second cheque, and operators who have actually scaled a company from Doha. GrowthX is filling that gap directly.
Its track record so far shows what that looks like in practice: a hackathon-born logistics startup backed twice in nine months; an incubator graduate turned Doha-headquartered fintech; Qatari founders plugged into Snoonu’s infrastructure; and international companies choosing Doha as their regional base. Every one of those decisions strengthens the case that Qatar is a place to build, not just a place to raise.
This may be the most important question GrowthX raises. For many regional and international funds, the hesitation around Qatar’s early-stage market has never been about ambition or public support – it has been about proof. Investors look for three things before committing to a new market: a pipeline of investable companies, credible local co-investors to share early risk, and examples of companies that have grown and returned value. GrowthX is helping to build all three.
First, it is de-risking the earliest rounds. When a local investor with Snoonu’s operating track record leads a pre-seed or seed round, it gives follow-on investors a trusted partner on the ground and a company that has already been tested and supported. ShipBee raising a second GrowthX-led round within nine months is exactly the kind of progression that later-stage funds look for.
Second, it is creating co-investment moments. Yuno’s Series B put GrowthX and Rasmal Ventures in the same round as Andreessen Horowitz and Tiger Global, as the company chose Qatar as its GCC hub. Deals like this bring global investors into direct contact with Doha-based capital and Doha-based companies – relationships that tend to lead to the next deal.
Third, it is investing in the funds themselves. By backing venture firms such as Rasmal Ventures as a strategic LP, GrowthX is helping expand the pool of professional managers active in and around Qatar – complementing national initiatives such as the Qatar Investment Authority’s fund-of-funds programme, which has been drawing international VC firms to set up in Doha.
The full answer will take time: the real test will be how many GrowthX portfolio companies go on to raise larger rounds from other investors over the next two to three years. But the early signs are encouraging. With a nine-figure deployment plan still in its early stages, GrowthX is positioning itself as one of the most important private-sector engines in Qatar’s venture landscape – and sending a clear message to investors across the region and beyond: the next generation of Qatari success stories can be backed, built and scaled from Doha, and there is room at the table for more capital to join them.
