Doha, Qatar – Qatar-based technology startup Revio has unveiled Revio Upgrade, a new subscription platform designed to make premium smartphones more accessible through flexible monthly plans, reflecting a growing shift from device ownership towards subscription-based technology services.

The launch builds on Revio's broader mission to develop a circular device ecosystem in Qatar, allowing consumers to access the latest smartphones without paying the full purchase price upfront while promoting longer device lifecycles and more sustainable technology consumption.

A New Way to Access Premium Smartphones

Traditional smartphone purchases often require a significant upfront investment or long-term financing commitments. Revio Upgrade introduces an alternative model where customers subscribe to a device for a fixed monthly fee, with the flexibility to upgrade, extend, or purchase the device at the end of their subscription.

Each subscription includes warranty coverage throughout the device's lifecycle, offering customers a simpler and more predictable ownership experience.

The model reflects a growing international trend towards "Device-as-a-Service" (DaaS), where access and flexibility increasingly take precedence over outright ownership. 

How Revio Upgrade Works

The platform has been designed to simplify the upgrade experience through a straightforward subscription process:

• Customers select their preferred smartphone, storage capacity, and colour.

• Rather than paying the full retail price, they subscribe through fixed monthly payments.

• Devices are delivered ready for use with warranty coverage included.

• After the initial subscription period, eligible customers can upgrade to a newer smartphone or another compatible device.

• At the conclusion of the subscription, customers can return the device, renew their plan at a reduced monthly fee, or purchase the device outright.

The approach allows users to keep pace with rapidly evolving mobile technology while avoiding the financial burden of purchasing a new flagship smartphone every few years.

Supporting a Circular Technology Economy

Beyond affordability, Revio positions its platform as part of Qatar's broader sustainability ambitions.

Instead of devices remaining unused in drawers or entering the waste stream prematurely, returned smartphones are securely wiped, refurbished where appropriate, and reintroduced into circulation. The company says this circular approach extends product lifecycles while helping reduce electronic waste and encouraging more responsible technology consumption. 

The company has developed its platform around automated lifecycle management, integrating onboarding, subscription management, upgrades, insurance, logistics, and secure device processing into a single digital ecosystem.

Initial Rollout

Revio Upgrade is currently available exclusively to members of the Jood Privilege Program, with a broader public rollout and support for additional devices expected in future phases.
