Doha, Qatar - The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has brought together small and medium-sized enterprises and digital solution providers as part of Qatar’s efforts to accelerate business digital transformation and strengthen the country’s digital economy.

Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) and Qatar Development Bank (QDB), and supported by Ooredoo Qatar and Qatar Post, the SMEs Go Digital “Connect” event was held at Andaz Doha by Hyatt. The initiative aimed to help SMEs assess their digital readiness, engage directly with technology providers, and adopt tools that improve competitiveness and operational efficiency.

More Than 195 SMEs Participate

The event brought together more than 195 SMEs and over 20 approved digital solution providers through a unified platform designed to encourage direct engagement between businesses and technology companies.

Participants explored solutions across key areas including online presence, e-commerce and cloud services. The programme focused on priority sectors such as retail and wholesale, transport and storage, tourism, education and healthcare, reflecting the growing importance of digital tools across Qatar’s wider business landscape.

Matchmaking and Knowledge Sharing

A key feature of the event was the use of direct matchmaking sessions, allowing SMEs to meet accredited digital solution providers and identify tools suited to their business needs. The event also included networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities, helping companies exchange expertise and better understand how digital solutions can support growth.

The platform was designed not only to introduce technology providers to SMEs, but also to create stronger links across Qatar’s digital ecosystem by connecting businesses with service providers, public-sector support entities and national expertise.

Supporting Qatar’s Digital Agenda 2030

The initiative supports Qatar’s Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030, both of which place digital transformation, innovation and economic diversification at the centre of the country’s long-term development plans. Qatar’s National Digital Agenda 2030 is structured around six pillars: digital infrastructure, digital governance, digital innovation, digital technology, digital economy and digital society.

The agenda aims to grow Qatar’s digital economy, improve digital skills and create 26,000 ICT-sector jobs by 2030, while generating economic benefits estimated at nearly $10bn.

MCIT: Digital Adoption Key to SME Competitiveness

Faraj Jassim Abdulla, Director of the Digital Economy Department at MCIT, said the ministry continues to support SMEs in using digital technologies as a driver of competitiveness, productivity and sustainable economic growth.

He noted that connecting companies with digital solution providers and national expertise helps strengthen Qatar’s transition toward a knowledge-based economy, in line with the goals of the Digital Agenda 2030.

MOCI Highlights Business Environment and IP Protection

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said supporting SMEs remains a key pillar in enhancing the competitiveness of Qatar’s national economy. Its participation focused on raising awareness among business owners and entrepreneurs about services related to commercial registration, licensing, regulatory procedures and intellectual property protection, including copyrights, trademarks and patents.

MOCI said these efforts help businesses operate within approved regulatory frameworks while encouraging innovation and strengthening the sustainability of Qatar’s business environment.

QDB Emphasises Integrated Support for SMEs

Qatar Development Bank also highlighted the importance of coordinated national efforts to accelerate digital transformation among SMEs. According to QDB, the support ecosystem begins with digital readiness assessments and extends to helping businesses access suitable technology solutions through grants, financing services and advisory support.

The SMEs Go Digital programme, led by MCIT, supports companies through specialised assessments, approved solution-provider connections, training programmes, awareness sessions on emerging technologies and access to potential financial support in partnership with QDB.

Strengthening Qatar’s SME Digital Ecosystem

By bringing together SMEs, digital providers and national support institutions, SMEs Go Digital “Connect” reflects Qatar’s broader push to make technology adoption more accessible for businesses of all sizes.

The event also underlines the growing role of SMEs in Qatar’s digital economy, as companies increasingly adopt cloud services, e-commerce tools, digital payment systems and online platforms to improve efficiency, expand market reach and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving business environment.
