Doha hosted the annual strategic meeting of the Permanent Web Summit Organising Committee as Qatar begins preparations for Web Summit Qatar 2027, which is scheduled to take place from 31 January to 3 February 2027. The meeting brought together key government, investment, tourism, aviation and technology partners to review the event’s progress and define priorities for its next phase of growth.
The meeting was chaired by HE Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani, Director of the Government Communications Office and Chairman of the Permanent Web Summit Organising Committee. Representatives from several major national entities attended, including the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Visit Qatar, Invest Qatar, Qatar Investment Authority and Qatar Airways. Web Summit founder and CEO Paddy Cosgrave and senior members of the Web Summit team also joined the discussions.
The committee reviewed the growing role of Web Summit Qatar as a platform connecting entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers and global technology leaders. Since the 2025 edition, 69 startups that participated in Web Summit Qatar’s Startup Programme have collectively raised more than $205 million in funding, highlighting the event’s increasing value as a gateway between founders and international capital.
Web Summit Qatar 2026 marked the event’s largest edition so far, bringing together 30,274 attendees, 1,637 startups and 931 investors from 127 countries at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. According to Web Summit, the event doubled its attendance in two years, reflecting rising global interest in Qatar as a regional base for innovation, entrepreneurship and investment.
The meeting also highlighted the wider economic impact of the event. During Web Summit Qatar 2026, more than 300 companies completed registration with Qatar Financial Centre, while QFC received around 2,300 business licensing applications, up from around 1,600 in 2025. These applications were mainly concentrated in digital transformation, fintech, consulting, project management and innovation-led sectors.
QFC later reported 57% year-on-year growth in firm registrations during the first quarter of 2026, with more than 800 new firms licensed between January and March. This performance reflects how major international events such as Web Summit Qatar are helping convert global interest into concrete business activity in the country.
Looking ahead, the committee set several priorities for Web Summit Qatar 2027. These include strengthening international participation, attracting leading startups, investors and technology companies, expanding opportunities for Qatari entrepreneurs, and ensuring the event continues to deliver long-term value for Qatar’s digital economy and startup ecosystem.
HE Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani said Web Summit Qatar has become an important platform for connecting entrepreneurs, investors and technology leaders while supporting Qatar’s digital economy. He added that preparations for the fourth edition will focus on building on the event’s existing momentum and creating long-term opportunities for Qatar and the wider region.
Paddy Cosgrave, founder and CEO of Web Summit, also praised the strength of the partnership with Qatar, noting the growing international interest in the event and expressing confidence in welcoming the global technology community back to Doha in 2027.
The preparations come as Qatar continues to strengthen its position in global startup and innovation rankings. In StartupBlink’s Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026, Qatar ranked 73rd worldwide, climbing three places from the previous year. The ranking marked the country’s highest position to date and reflected continued progress in startup activity, business environment and ecosystem visibility.
Web Summit Qatar is expected to remain a central part of this growth strategy by connecting local founders with global investors, supporting international business expansion into Qatar, and positioning Doha as a regional meeting point for technology, entrepreneurship and investment.
With preparations underway for its fourth edition, Web Summit Qatar 2027 is set to build on the outcomes of previous years while creating new opportunities for startups, investors and technology companies. Through the continued partnership between the Permanent Web Summit Organising Committee and Web Summit, the event is expected to further support Qatar’s ambition to become a leading regional hub for digital innovation and entrepreneurship.
