New Coaching Initiative Connects Qatar Startups With Global Technology Leaders

Doha, Qatar - Qatar’s early-stage technology founders are set to gain new access to global technical expertise through the launch of CTO Saturdays, a quarterly coaching initiative designed to support startup CTOs and technical founders in Doha.

The programme has been launched by the Young Entrepreneurs Club Qatar in partnership with Golden Gate Ventures’ MENA Fund, with Startup Grind Doha joining as community partner. The first session is scheduled to take place at the end of May 2026. 

A focused programme for technical founders

CTO Saturdays is designed for early-stage startup founders and CTOs who are building technology products in Qatar. Each edition will bring an internationally recognised chief technology officer to Doha for a full-day coaching programme with a small selected cohort.

The initiative will run four times a year, with each session limited to around eight to 12 founders. This smaller format is intended to give participants direct access to senior technology operators who have experience building, scaling and managing complex technology companies. 

The programme focuses on practical technical challenges rather than general startup advice. Topics may include system architecture, scaling products, engineering team structures, technical due diligence, and working with outsourced technology providers.

Addressing a gap in Qatar’s startup ecosystem

Qatar’s startup ecosystem has expanded significantly in recent years through public and private sector initiatives, including incubators, accelerators, funding programmes and entrepreneurship support from institutions such as Qatar Development Bank.

However, early-stage technical founders often need more than access to capital or pitch training. Many also require direct guidance from experienced technology leaders who have already managed product growth, engineering teams and infrastructure challenges at scale.

CTO Saturdays aims to address this gap by connecting local founders with global operators who can provide hands-on feedback on real technical problems. The initiative is positioned as a way to help founders avoid common scaling mistakes and adopt stronger technology practices earlier in their startup journey. 

How the sessions will work

Each CTO Saturdays session will follow a structured full-day format.

The morning will include a deep-dive workshop led by the visiting CTO. The topic will be selected based on the needs of the cohort and may cover areas such as system design, engineering culture, product infrastructure or technical readiness for fundraising.

The afternoon will focus on one-on-one coaching. Founders will be able to discuss their own codebases, architecture diagrams, technical bottlenecks and product challenges directly with the visiting CTO.

The day will conclude with a fireside chat, giving participants access to broader lessons on building technology companies, managing growth and navigating the operational pressures that come with scaling.

Building global knowledge links in Doha

The initiative reflects a wider shift in Qatar’s entrepreneurship landscape, where ecosystem development is increasingly focused not only on funding, but also on access to expertise, networks and operational knowledge.

Golden Gate Ventures, which has expanded its focus from Southeast Asia into the MENA region, has positioned the programme around the idea that high-growth startup ecosystems need global knowledge transfer alongside capital. The firm’s involvement also comes as Qatar continues to attract international venture capital attention through national initiatives aimed at strengthening the local startup and innovation landscape. 

Qatar Investment Authority previously announced a Fund of Funds programme to attract international and regional venture capital firms and support the development of Qatar’s startup ecosystem. More recently, Reuters reported that Qatar expanded the initiative to $3 billion, with the aim of attracting more venture capital firms to Doha and supporting economic diversification. 

Supporting a stronger technical founder community

Startup Grind Doha’s participation as community partner adds an ecosystem-building layer to the programme. The Doha chapter describes its role as bringing together founders, investors, mentors, academia and ecosystem enablers, while connecting local entrepreneurs to global startup networks and best practices. 

By keeping the programme small and focused, CTO Saturdays aims to provide practical value to founders who may not usually receive tailored technical mentorship through broader entrepreneurship programmes.

The initiative also complements YEC’s existing activities, which include workshops, training programmes and sector-focused events for entrepreneurs in Qatar.

A step toward deeper startup capability

CTO Saturdays adds a new technical mentorship track to Qatar’s startup support landscape. While many entrepreneurship programmes focus on business models, fundraising, pitching and market entry, this initiative targets the engineering and product-building side of startup growth.

For Qatar-based technical founders, the programme offers access to international CTO-level experience without needing to travel to major global technology hubs. For the wider ecosystem, it supports the development of stronger local startup capabilities in areas that are critical for scaling technology companies.

As Qatar continues to invest in entrepreneurship, venture capital and innovation, initiatives such as CTO Saturdays could help deepen the country’s technical talent base and strengthen its position as a regional hub for startup development.
