Doha, Qatar – September 2026

Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) is putting real market data directly into the hands of the people who need it most: entrepreneurs deciding where to open, and investors deciding where to put their money. The ministry’s Qatar Business Map platform lets founders study the market, compare neighbourhoods, and read the commercial landscape of any area in the country – before they sign a lease, apply for a licence, or set a launch date.

Data that supports your decision, from day one

The premise behind the Qatar Business Map is simple and, for a first-time founder, genuinely useful: instead of guessing which part of Doha or Al Rayyan fits a new business, users get access to real data on commercial activity, market conditions, and demand by area. That means clearer, evidence-based decisions on where to locate a business, rather than relying on instinct or word of mouth.

Six tools built for market research

MOCI has organised the platform around six services that map neatly onto the questions every new business owner actually has:

AI-powered map analysis – an interactive assistant that lets users explore and analyse the platform’s data directly, in plain language, to better understand a given market before committing to it.

Business closure monitoring – tracking closure trends across the market so users can spot which areas or sectors are cooling off, and which are opening up.

New business discovery – surfacing emerging opportunities as the market evolves, useful for anyone scouting a gap to fill.

Business type exploration – browsing commercial activity by sector, activity type, and geographic location, so users can see exactly what already exists nearby.

Best-location finder – identifying the areas best suited to a specific business concept and its target customers.

Foreign investment insights – data on the scale and distribution of foreign investment across Qatar, a useful reference point for anyone benchmarking a sector’s attractiveness.

Together, the six tools cover the full arc of early-stage market research – from initial idea to picking an actual address – on a single, free, government-run platform.

Part of a wider digital push at MOCI

The Qatar Business Map isn’t a one-off tool; it’s one piece of a broader digital upgrade MOCI has been rolling out for the country’s private sector, alongside a new e-commerce licence covering 194 business activities, a redesigned ministry website, and mobile app upgrades that let business owners issue digital certificates and track licence renewals from their phones. It also builds on MOCI’s original Business Map portal, launched under Law No. 1 of 2020 on the Unified Economic Register to strengthen transparency in Qatar’s commercial data.

Why it matters for Qatar’s entrepreneurship ecosystem

Market research is usually one of the first real costs a founder runs into – paying a consultant, buying data, or simply guessing and hoping the location works out. By publishing this data openly through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar is removing one of the more expensive, less visible barriers to starting a business, and doing it in a way that scales to every entrepreneur in the country, not just the well-connected or well-funded ones. For a market where SMEs are meant to carry an increasing share of non-oil GDP, a free, government-backed tool that turns raw commercial data into a usable map is exactly the kind of infrastructure that compounds – the kind of quiet enabler that makes the next wave of Qatari businesses easier to start, and easier to get right the first time.
