Qatar to Host UNCTAD's 9th World Investment Forum in Doha, October 25-27

Doha, Qatar — August 30, 2026
Qatar will host the ninth edition of the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) World Investment Forum in Doha from October 25 to 27, 2026, under the theme "Investing in the Future." Organized by UNCTAD in partnership with Qatar and the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), the three-day gathering is expected to draw stakeholders from more than 160 countries — including heads of state, ministers, CEOs and sovereign wealth fund executives — and, notably for Falak's audience, a dedicated program track on SMEs and entrepreneurship.
The Forum's program is built around seven thematic tracks: Tech Investing in AI, SMEs & Entrepreneurship, Investment Policy Dialogue, Sustainable Finance and Business, Investment in Tourism and Culture, Climate, Environment and Oceans, and Investment Promotion and Special Economic Zones. Programming runs across plenaries, ministerial roundtables and a Global Leaders Investment Summit, alongside the Sustainable Stock Exchanges Global Dialogue and an Investment and Enterprise Ministerial Roundtable.
The SMEs & Entrepreneurship track is framed around "trends in sustainable entrepreneurship and resilient digital business models," putting Qatar's startup ecosystem builders on the same agenda as sovereign funds and multinational investors rather than as a side event. It's paired with the Investment and Enterprise Ministerial Roundtable, which gives institutions like QDB, QSTP and Invest Qatar's Startup Qatar initiative a global stage to compare financing, incubation and policy approaches with counterpart agencies from the 160-plus countries expected to attend.
HE Ahmad bin Mohammed Al Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs, said Qatar intends for the Forum to produce outcomes rather than just discussion: "We intend for Doha to be a place of action, where public and private actors come together to shape the future of investment." The event is organized with UNCTAD, led by Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan, and follows Qatar's bid, announced in October 2025, to bring the Forum — previously held in Abu Dhabi in October 2023 for its 8th edition — to the region for a second consecutive edition.
For Falak's audience, the headline is less the Forum's macro investment agenda than what it puts on Doha's calendar in October: a UN-convened platform where Qatar's SME and entrepreneurship track sits alongside sessions on AI and sustainable finance, in front of an audience of global investment promotion agencies and ministers. It follows a run of ecosystem-building moves this year — QIA's Fund of Funds expansion to $3 billion, new residency tracks for entrepreneurs unveiled at Web Summit Qatar 2026, and QSTP's incubation programming — that have positioned Qatar to make its own pitch to the founders and investors the Forum will bring to Doha.
