Doha, Qatar — August 25, 2026
The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has led a $200 million Series D funding round for Gatik, a US-based autonomous trucking company, co-leading alongside Koch Disruptive Technologies. The round adds ARK Invest, Millennium Management Global Investment, Intact Private Capital, Arca Continental and other investors to Gatik's cap table as the company scales its driverless freight operations across North America.
What the deal covers
The $200 million Series D is one of the larger checks written into the autonomous-vehicle space this year, and QIA's decision to lead it puts the fund squarely at the center of the round rather than as a passive participant. Gatik will use the capital to expand its fleet and grow into new markets, building on contracts already worth more than $600 million with Fortune 50 retailers, grocery chains and consumer packaged goods companies.
Gatik's driverless freight business
Gatik operates fully driverless trucks on fixed, short-haul routes in Texas, Arizona, Arkansas and Ontario, Canada, moving goods between distribution centers and retail stores — the "middle mile" that sits between warehouses and the customer's doorstep. The company has completed more than 100,000 autonomous deliveries to date and recently expanded its partnership with PepsiCo, evidence that its model is moving past pilot projects and into repeat, revenue-generating routes for large retail partners.
Why QIA is backing it
Abdullah Al Kuwari, Director of Industrial Investments at QIA, said autonomous freight "is transforming the global logistics sector by making it more efficient and reliable," and that QIA is committed to backing companies shaping the future of freight infrastructure. The rationale tracks QIA's broader industrial-investment thesis: back infrastructure-level technology with proven commercial contracts rather than early-stage bets on unproven demand. Gatik's existing $600 million in contracted work gives QIA a startup that already looks like an operating logistics business, not just a technology demo.
A wider signal for Qatar's investment strategy
The Gatik round is the latest in a pattern of QIA writing direct checks into global venture and growth-stage deals, rather than only allocating capital through fund managers. It follows the expansion of QIA's Fund of Funds programme and the launch, alongside Invest Qatar, of a dedicated venture capital funding module meant to connect global VC firms — several of which are now opening Doha offices — with startups in Qatar. Seen together, these moves point to QIA building both ends of a venture pipeline: direct exposure to category-leading startups abroad, and infrastructure at home to route similar capital toward Qatar-based founders.
